What is Jersey club music?

Jersey club is a dance music style that started in the clubs and house parties of New Jersey, especially around Newark and the surrounding area. It grew out of the local dance scene and has since spread far beyond the state.

The sound

Tracks usually run at a fast tempo with a sharp, syncopated kick drum. The rhythm is busy and stuttering, which makes it a natural fit for rhythm games: the beat is clear, but the pattern keeps you alert.

Vocal chops and short sampled phrases are common. DJs often cut and rearrange them to build energy.

Why it fits a rhythm game

Jersey club keeps a strong, repeatable pulse. Each track gives you a clear beat to follow, and the kick patterns make good targets for tapping. That is why Jersey Club King uses it as its soundtrack.

Listening

Tracks in the game are streamed from the Audius music platform. Each artist keeps the rights to their own music, so when you enjoy a track, follow the artist on Audius to support them.
